Overview
Grade 5 hex head cap screws are medium strength (120,000 PSI tensile) and are made from carbon steel. Length is determined from the base of the fastener head.
Grade 5 Hex Cap Screws are made from carbon steel and are used in applications where medium strength is necessary, typically those where controlled clamp force and high loads are required. These screws can be screwed into internally tapped holes or used with a nut. Grade 5 Hex Cap Screws should always be used with a hardened washer under the turned component. SAE J429 covers the material and performance requirements of Grade 5 Hex Cap Screws and ASME B18.2.1 covers the dimensional requirements.
